Frank Sinatra – An Extraordinary Story – Index

This book is called Frank Sinatra – An Extraordinary Story but I never appreciated how extraordinary it was until I compiled the index. His associates include royalty, Presidents, major businessmen, major criminals, astronauts, boxers, actors, musicians, songwriters, wives, girlfriends and lots of showgirls. Frank knew everyone or rather, everyone wanted to know him. Forget six degrees of separation: with Frank, you were a handshake from almost every celebrity or key politician over a 50 year period.

Frank Sinatra recorded over 2,000 songs and every one of them is mentioned in the text. It would make the index too unwieldly if all passing references were included so by and large, I have the restricted the entries to ones worth following up.

To think he did all this…

Goodbye, Dear and Amen

It would be demeaning to reduce stars like Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe to Frank Sinatra’s girlfriends in the index but there is an astonishing amount of activity on Frankie’s part and had he been living in the 21st century his sex tapes would be all over the net. The wives and lovers include Lauren Bacall, Nancy Barbato, Lady Adelle Beatty, Tiffany Bolling, Slim Brandy, Dorothy Bunocelli, Vanessa Brown, Marian Brush, Judy Campbell, Marlene Dietrich, Dixie Evans, Mia Farrow, Mona Freeman, Eva Gabor, Ava Gardner, Judy Garland, Sandra Gell, Edie Goetz, Alora Gooding, Pam Heyward, Josephine Ingildsen, Grace Kelly, Peggy Lee, Peggy Lipton, Virna Lisi, Rita Maritt, Barbara Marx, Marilyn Maxwell, Marilyn Monroe, Lois Nettleton, Kim Novak, Toni Penta, Juliet Prowse, Lee Remick, Gloria Rhodes, Jill St. John, Dinah Shore, Elizabeth Taylor, Lana Turner, Gloria Vanderbilt and Mary Lou Watts.

Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren turned him down: Joan Collins was hoping for a night of passion but found Frank with her stand-in. Hard to tell with Shirley MacLaine but according to her last book, Frank communicates from beyond the grave, so that must make her extra special. Sinatra did announce to the world that he had never had an affair with the First Lady, Nancy Reagan, but was he being kind to her when he said it or insulting?

Nevertheless, there is plenty of evidence that Frank could be a considerate lover unlike the equally promiscuous Dean Martin who would tell girls, “If you want to talk, find a priest.”

Wham, bam, thank you ma’am.
